MWS Partners Methodist Schools to Better Engage Seniors

Leveraging community involvement to engage our senior beneficiaries, MWS has been ramping up collaborations with Methodist schools in a variety of volunteering activities.

In the month of April, MWS Bethany Nursing Home – Choa Chu Kang residents were entertained by Methodist Girls’ School (MGS) String Ensemble. On another occasion, the residents also received cyber security awareness training by Anglo Chinese School (International) students.

The MGS students shared that they were glad to use their musical skills to bring joy to the residents, while the residents relished the performances and opportunity to interact with the students.

Meanwhile, students from other Methodist schools have also been connecting with seniors at MWS Active Ageing Centres (AACs) over activities such as games, day outings, and art and craft making.

Recently, a group of Anglo Chinese School (Barker Road) students coached our seniors in table tennis before engaging them in a friendly match. Elsewhere, students from Geylang Methodist Secondary School hosted an outing to Jewel Changi Airport’s Canopy Walk for our seniors, where the seniors teamed up and competed to solve puzzles.

Such activities bring together the youth and older adults to bond, exchange skills and have fun, while building a sense of community. For our seniors, it also helps them to stay active and stave off social isolation, as well as improve their mental and physical health.

A huge thanks to the Methodist schools for their commitment in supporting our beneficiaries so they can experience life to the full!
