WELFARE HOME

Helping the homeless rehabilitate and reintegrate

MWS CHRISTALITE METHODIST HOME

MWS runs a Welfare Home for persons who are homeless, destitute or abandoned. About 75% of residents may have permanent residency in the Welfare Home while approximately 17% may reintegrate into the community.

At our Centre, our focus is on rehabilitation and reintegration. Residents undergo rehabilitation programmes designed for cognitive stimulation and muscle reconditioning. They also enjoy an array of recreational activities, such as weekly game sessions, bazaars and movie nights, to build social, emotional engagement.

Services

What we offer

We rehabilitate residents through a mix of casework, as well as physical, cognitive, emotional and social interventions.

Physical

Physical

Physical

Together with our Allied Heath team, we offer physiotherapy, games and exercises to maintain residents’ physical function and delay decline. Our Adaptive Sports programme, which includes modified sports activities like boccia for example, is very popular among residents.
Cognitive

Cognitive

Cognitive

We offer therapy programmes, such as Reminiscence Therapy, for residents with dementia or showing early signs of cognitive impairment. They are designed to improve well-being and delay the decline in cognitive functioning.
Emotional

Emotional

Emotional

Our Home provides emotional support through compassionate care, active listening, and meaningful social activities like bingo, karaoke or Zumba. Volunteer-led activities, involving people of all ages, help foster connection and joy. Regular check-ins and group events create a supportive environment where residents feel valued and engaged.
Social

Social

Social

For those deemed suitable, we have a Day Release Scheme, helping residents in securing and sustaining employment outside the Home, financial management training, counselling, and learning self-reliance, to help them reintegrate back to the community.
Services

OUR APPROACH

Holistic Care Plan

Each resident is cared for by a multi-disciplinary team that ensures the resident’s basic, physical, psychosocial, cognitive and spiritual needs are holistically met.

Through keeping in contact with residents’ families and Day Release Schemes that allow residents to work outside, we strengthen family and community bonds and facilitate our residents’ eventual reintegration into their families and society.

Person-Centred Care

We encourage resident-directed living by motivating our residents to tap on their strengths and potential, and be involved in their own care to ensure their needs are met holistically.

Frequently Asked Questions

To be eligible for admission to a welfare home in Singapore, an individual must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident, lack financial means, have no family support or housing, and be unable to care for themselves. The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) determines the admission criteria for those considered "destitute."

We do not charge fees, as our residents' needs are fully supported by MWS and MSF.

If you suspect someone is homeless and needs help, contact MSF’s ComCare hotline at 1800 222 0000 or email to Destitute_Ops@msf.gov.sg. We do not accept walk-ins.
