Faith & good works
Introduction
Part of the Methodist ethos is to follow the example of Christ who “came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, famously said: “Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, to all the souls you can, in every place you can, at all the times you can, with all the zeal you can, as long as ever you can”.
Hence, MWS was set up in 1981 as the social concerns arm of The Methodist Church in Singapore – an avenue for Methodists to show God’s love by offering practical assistance to the distressed and the disadvantaged.

Church partnerships
Church partnerships play a critical role in helping the individuals and families that MWS serves. Besides funding many of our programmes, your church's Outreach ministries bring valuable activities and volunteers to our Centres. If your church would like to collaborate with MWS on outreach and social concerns and/or other events, MWS welcomes you to reach out to us!

Pastoral Care
MWS has a decades-old tradition of providing pastoral care. Pastoral care is important as holistic care of an individual extends beyond meeting their physical needs to include offering emotional and spiritual support. This often entails chatting with people, offering a listening ear, and praying for them. At MWS, we respect each person’s religious choices. Our Chaplains also conduct pastoral care training. Pastoral Care Training
MWS Chaplains can conduct training in pastoral care for your church members at your church premises.
Church members may choose to take the short training course, consisting of two training modules: 1) Attentive Listening – this is an important life skill that can be used anywhere, and 2) How to share your faith in a gentle, respectful way.
Each module lasts approximately 2 hours and is free of charge.
Church members may also choose the more comprehensive training course, which leads to a Certificate of Pastoral Care (please refer to information below).
In addition, MWS Chaplains have made available a set of training videos that can be accessed at any time.
