Supporting Families in Early Stress

STRENGTHENING FAMILIES PROGRAMME (METHODIST WELFARE SERVICES)

MWS' Strengthening Families Programme (FAM) is part of the network of FAMs, led by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), to support couples who are facing greater challenges in their marriage, and families showing early signs of stress.

FAM(MWS) serves all families and individuals, but especially residents in the Hougang, Serangoon and Sengkang (HSS) region, as part of the MWS Family Services Hub.

What we offer

We provide family and marital counselling and offer divorce support for couples in managing separations and family transitions.

Counselling for individuals, couples and children with a focus on resolving marital or child behavioural issues, or parenting and co-parenting challenges

  • To minimise the negative effects of divorce on children whose parents are divorcing or have divorced
  • For children 7-12 years old
  • 6 sessions of 2 hours each
Children-in-Between Programme (CiB Children)

Children-in-Between Programme (CiB Children)

  • For children (6-15 years old) caught in-between the conflicts of their divorced parents
  • 3 sessions of 2 hours each

  • For parents who are divorcing or have divorced
  • 2 sessions of 2 hours each

Divorce Support Group Programme (SUG)

  • For divorced or divorcing individuals
  • 6 sessions, 1.5 hours per session, support group work format
  • A minimum of 5 participants is needed to start a group
  • Each group is single gender

OUR CARE APPROACH

We use family therapy, a transformative process that helps families rebuild bonds, communicate effectively, and find healing, for our clients. The primary goals of family therapy are to understand and solve the unique issues a family may be facing, and create a better home environment.

How to get help

Many of the cases we handle are referred from other partners such as the Family Justice Courts or Family Service Centres. However, if you need help, you may call or email us. We will contact you to further assess your family situation and needs. Thereafter, we will develop a plan to assist you.

Weekdays 8:30am – 5:30pm
Closed on weekends and public holidays

FAM(MWS), together with Families for Life@Community - MWS (MWS FFLC) and MWS Covenant Family Service Centre, form the regional social service hub, serving families and individuals in the Hougang, Sengkang and Serangoon (HSS) region. Residents in the HSS region can expect a seamless service from these centres, handling a spectrum of family issues, across different situations and stages.

Yes. If you need help, you may call or email us. Our social work and counselling practitioner will contact you to further assess your family situation and needs. They will then develop a plan to assist you.

Yes, you may approach us for help. Our services are available to Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents. We also support non-residents who have a Singaporean parent, spouse, or child. For clients below 18 years old, we kindly ask that parental consent be obtained before reaching out to us, so that we can support you appropriately.

Our services are free of charge.

Every family situation and need is different. It may take weeks or months for family conflicts to resolve, as the issues can be complex with different parties involved, including children. Each party may be at different emotional stages. But be assured that our social work practitioners and counsellors will walk closely with you on your journey.
