ACS ACADEMY

Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) has partnered with Anglo-Chinese School (ACS) to set up ACS Academy, Singapore’s fifth special education (SPED) school. ACS Academy is open to students, 7-18 years old, with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who have no intellectual impairment and can access the national curriculum.

First announced in 2023, ACS Academy begins operations in January 2026 at an interim site previously occupied by Choa Chu Kang Secondary School. Its permanent campus will be in Tengah New Town, tentatively ready by 2031.

With this partnership, it is MWS’ first foray into SPED. ACS Academy is also the first Methodist school that caters to students with special needs. Some features of the school:

  • Student-teacher ratio at the school will be kept low, to accommodate their special learning needs.
  • Allied professional staff, such as a psychologist and speech therapist, will be at hand.
  • Environmental provisions have been added as well, such as calm rooms on every floor and calm corners in some classrooms.

MWS’ involvement in ACS Academy:

1/ Strategic collaboration: This is a strategic partnership aimed at leveraging the respective expertise of both MWS and ACS to benefit students and the wider community.

2/ Holistic support: MWS provides psychosocial and emotional care services, family life education, and physical/occupational therapy to help students develop in a well-rounded manner.

3/ Vocational pathways: MWS is working with ACS Academy to offer potential career paths in the healthcare and social services sectors for students.

4/ Building an inclusive society: MWS’ involvement aligns with our vision of creating a more inclusive society, where individuals are empowered and supported to reach their fuller potential.
