The Healing Nation

Introduction

In 2025, Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) launched “The Healing Nation”, a national initiative that marked the Methodist community’s contribution to Singapore in commemoration of SG60.

Inspired by the 140th anniversary of The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS), the initiative was deeply aligned with the heartbeat of Forward SG, which laid the foundation for Singapore’s refreshed social compact.

Under The Healing Nation initiative, MWS had two ambitious goals:

  • To raise $1.4 million to fund critical social and healthcare services beyond MWS’ own programmes
  • To call on the Methodist community and Singaporeans to mobilise 1.4 million hours of volunteer service

An Ecosystem of Volunteers

MWS invested in resources to build a self-sustaining ecosystem of volunteers for Singapore’s community care sector.

One was the development of TheHealingNation.sg – an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-empowered digital platform – in partnership with Give.Asia. The platform used algorithms to better match volunteers with volunteer opportunities, by learning user preferences and improving matches over time.

The longer-term goal was to facilitate a mindset shift – that volunteering is more than charity but a way of life, where everyone can contribute and benefit, creating a more resilient society.

systemic change in community care through innovation

Besides the AI-empowered digital platform – TheHealingNation.sg – the hope was to transform community care through innovation.

It is necessary to leverage on technology and find new ways of working in order for the comcare sector to remain sustainable for the long term.
