Synopsis:
As children develop and become more independent, they may form views that are different from their parents. How can parents actively support and encourage their children’s ideas and views to enhance the communication between them.
In this talk, parents will learn how to communicate effectively with their children by employing the 4 Levels of ACTIVE Listening:
Facts – What triggered the behaviours?
Feelings – What are the emotional states of the children
Intentions – What are the purposes of the behaviours?
Beliefs – What beliefs (limiting or enhancing) caused the behaviours?
When parents begin to understand and appreciate their children’s behaviours, feelings, intentions and beliefs, they are modelling a respectful and loving relationship with their children. This then leads to stronger bonds between parent and child. Additionally, children acquire these skills which are beneficial for their development.
