Knowledge Exchange Highlights Role of Occupational Therapy in Healthcare

On 21 August 2025, MWS’ Allied Health team welcomed a delegation of occupational therapy professors from Japan to MWS Bethany Nursing Home – Choa Chu Kang for a cross-country exchange on rehabilitation and eldercare.

Held in collaboration with the Singapore Association for Occupational Therapists and the Singapore Institute of Technology, delegates were given an overview of MWS’ allied health services including occupational therapy in eldercare. This was followed by a guided tour of the Nursing Home during which the visitors observed how occupational therapy is seamlessly integrated into residents’ daily routines – from sessions in the rehabilitation gym to therapeutic activities such as meal preparation.

“At its heart, our programmes and everyday practice are guided by a resident-centric approach,” said Chian Dee Onn, MWS Senior Occupational Therapist.

MWS is honoured to be invited by Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists and Singapore Institute of Technology to showcase our nursing home care model in Singapore to the visiting Japanese delegates. The exchange deepened mutual understanding of eldercare practices across both countries, and reaffirmed MWS’ commitment to collaborate for innovation and better care.
