Volunteering has taken a hit from the pandemic. Despite that, demand for MWS’ services continue to soar as community needs grow. As in-person activities resume, we will require more volunteers to give the gift of time.

On 1 July 2023, MWS hosted a Volunteer Open House at MWS Bethany Nursing Home – Choa Chu Kang to meet new prospective volunteers and invite them to journey alongside us to serve our community.

Through display booths and sharing sessions, guests were introduced to the myriad of volunteering opportunities offered by MWS – from skills-based volunteerism such as mentoring or coaching youth (MWS Family Service Centres) to engaging seniors who are socially isolated (MWS Active Ageing Centres) and guiding families facing economic hardship towards financial security (MWS Family Development Programme). Attendees were also treated to performances, and given a guided tour of the nursing home.

At MWS, we invest in training to equip our volunteers to better serve our beneficiaries. Through webinars and in-person engagements, MWS volunteers undergo training on topics such as befriending seniors, understanding persons with dementia, and communicating better with youths. Our upcoming volunteer training sessions include introduction to financial management, engaging persons with chronic illness, and engaging persons struggling with mental health.

Keen to join us in empowering the disadvantaged and distressed? Find out how you can contribute as a volunteer at mws.sg/volunteer or email us at volunteer@mws.sg.
